Bike Riding Again
by Judy Devlin "jrdevlin@juno.com"
I'm "shouting" the news via this e-mail to you and many ACTC - ers. . .
I AM BACK RIDING THE BICYCLE AGAIN !!!
My first attempt ended rather poorly, however, Sunday, 3/8 was my 2nd
attempt & it was a very good 20 mile ride.
After being off the bike for 7 months, I was very very rusty & would not
trust myself to ride with others because of poor skills. But on Sunday,
I practiced, practiced, practiced.
Although you all may take the following for granted, I was delighted
doing the following:
- Shifting w/my new index shifters
- Standing up & pedaling
- Riding on a narrow bike trail
- Sharp right turns - sharp left turns
- Trusting the cars behind me to get around me
- Signaling or taking one hand from the handlebars
- Changing lanes to make a left turn along with the cars
- Having a ten wheeler right along side me without panic
- Going over an overpass
- Riding by the site of the accident
- Making a U-turn at the end of a cul-de-sac w/lots of park cars
- Drinking water at the same time I'm riding
- Having a strong head wind !!!!!!!!!
So, what I am trying to say here is that I'm ready to ride among & with
you and without being a detriment to your safety.
I'm looking forward to joining you on a club ride soon.
Thinking good thoughts & sending my best regards,
Judy
