Paul Vlasveld was the middle member of a triple-tandem. In-between mechanical breakdowns, they would cruise at 28 mph on the flats. Paul and his friends are training for Paris-Brest-Paris.
Seana Hogan only did a single lap this year, but she did ride up the day before, coming over Mt. Hamilton on her way to Davis. Seana did not draft during her ride, but was often seen with a paceline-train stretched out behind her, like you usually see with the faster tandems. The DDC made it 800 miles with 33,000 ft of climbing for the week, as Seana gets ready for her Seatle-to-San Diego trip in early June, and RAAM in late July.
Karen Langeman didn't want to do the Davis Double because she thought it was going to be too hard. It took her boss at work to talk her into doing it, and he doesn't even ride a bike. Karen found it to be no trouble at all, finishing her first double century in just 12 hours 35 minutes (12:35).
Leung Cheung is a brand-new ACTC member, having caught the cycling fever at the Tierra Bella. Through much determination and perserverance, Leung was able to hang in there to finish at 1:10 in the morning.
Dana Hoch was fastest of the ACTC'ers, finishing with an amazing time of 10:40.
Don Axtell completed his fifth and fastest Davis Double, with a time of 12:51. Like Seana, Don did not draft (which is only for wimps/wheelsuckers).
Jim Bradbury did not get run over this year, and Patti Hartinian did not run over anyone else, either. (Last year Jim crashed just in front of Patti). Patti looked spunky all day long, and went home that evening to get ready to run the SF Bay to Breakers the next day.
Jennie Phillips managed to "get into her zone" during the ride, finishing with Roy Sueda in under 12 hours (11:50).
Lou Mason made this his 18th Davis Double.
Sara Keenan dropped Dustin Coy (I'll meet you at the top. Yeah, right.) to finish her first DDC in a respectable 15 hours.
Steve Novelli and Ellen Atteberry also were successfull in their first DDC, finishing at midnight with a time of 19:00.
Robbie Huffman showed Candace Embrey the ropes, helping her obtain a victory at her first double century with a time of 19:30, Robbie's fastest.
Ann Nelson was our last finisher at 1:45 AM, while Bill Hermerding took the easy way out, getting a SAG in from the lunch stop.
