Return to Ride Stories

Del Valle Campout, May 1-2, 1999
Report by Robert Hull (rhull@netcom.com)

The Del Valle ride was a success. Saturday's weather was superb. Not to hot or cold. We had a little wind by the Calveras reservoir. Several riders went over Hamilton. However, most of us went via Calveras Rd. In Sunol, Don suggested we use Foothill Road instead of Sunol-Pleasonton Rd. Then we took Happy Valley Road. Thanks to Don for the side roads that took us out of traffic. Mary plans to update the route sheet with these changes.

Mary picked out three excellent campsites. We were greeted with snacks of shrimp and Champagne. Dinner was Chicken and pasta. Plenty of food was available. In the evening we played Spades. Candlight was provided by Mary's traditional Hurricane lamps from recycled plastic softdrink bottles.

During the night the wind kept everyone cold. By early morning the wind calmed. Sometime during the night the racoons cleaned the tables.

The ride back was dampened by two hours of rain and drizzle. By ten, the rain let up and we continued on to Milpitas.

Thanks to Mary for a well planned and supported trip.
