Letter # 60 - October 22, 1978Home,We are leaving Gbinti tomorrow, ending the village phase of the Water Supply training program. I've spent the last four weeks here. Diana came up with me for this last week. There are three new volunteers. Four came in, but one decided that he didn't want to stay. Taking my place up in Kamiendor is Keith Seaton from Colorado. Going to Madina is Tom Gardner from Wyoming, and going to Kamabai is Bob Yust from San Luis Obispo. For my new job, I will go to Freetown and try to look after all of these projects. We've played alot of soccer while we were here, maybe about 6 to 8 games. They were all practice games, leading up to the big challenge match, which was yesterday. It was all Peace Corps and Ministry of Energy and Power people against the people of Gbinti town. We managed to lose 5-1. We mailed off a letter a few weeks ago but only put a 20 cent stamp on it. The new rate is 27 cents, so I don't know if it got through. So far we haven't received anything from home. Everyone is healthy. I still haven't lost hardly any of the weight that I gained while I was home, and I don't think Diana has either. Diana's thumb still hurts every now and then. She hurt it playing volleyball that last time. The toenail on my big toe is coming off. I managed to knock it a few times by playing soccer. Diana and I will be getting married in a month or two. We still have to go through all of the paperwork and make all of the arrangements, so we still don't know a date. How is Patty and her baby(s)? Is everyone else healthy? We'll see you all in about 9 months.
Love, |
