Friday June 25
- Duncans Mills to Olema

Fran and Peggy.

Cora, Lisa, and Karl.

More perfect weather this morning. The coast seemed to be clear, so it would be sunshine riding from the start. Our whole group was planning on the longer option to get to breakfast, so we were about 18 riders all together heading out. Cora was all recovered from last night, so that was good.

The Group - Eric, Mark, Peggy, Miguel, Cora, Phil, Jim, John, Theresa, Donny, Lisa, Kim, Fran, Jeff.

After a few miles of easy cruising down Hwy 1 along the coast, we all stopped for some group photos before heading up Coleman Valley Road.

I offered to pull Nicole up the hill with my bungee cord, but she would have none of it. She was going to get up the hill on her own power, so that was ok.

Miguel, on top a rock pile.

Donny, on the rock.

Nancy and Jolyce.

Far off view of Mt.Tamalpais.

Towards the top of the steep section, Miguel rode off on some single-track and climbed up a big rock. I stopped to take his picture, and then ran over to join him on the rock. We then took alot of pictures, all with Cora's camera.

When I walked back over onto the road, some of the others from the Tour were just coming through in the other direction, just having finished breakfast in Occidental. Jolyce, Nancy, and Ted all stopped to take pictures with me. Finally it was time to get going again, as all the rest of my group had kept going. I hurried along and was able to just catch back up near the top of the last climb. Then we all descended down to breakfast in Occidental together.

After breakfast we were all hanging around, waiting to get started again. A man walked by with his dog, who looked very cute and friendly carrying his big stick with him, but the dog was a pitbull so we didn't want to get too close. The dog kept wanting us to take his stick and throw it for him. Finally the man came back and showed us a few tricks that the dog could do. The dog would turn over and lay on its back, and then would remain totally motionless until its owner told him it was ok to move.

We then all took the easy way out of town, all downhill to Freestone and then on to Valley Ford. Then it was up the steep Middle Road and a few rollers over to Tomales for our first SAG stop.

Sidewalk lizards in Tomales.

More lizards.

and More lizards.

We had a good long stop here, doing our usual "lay on the sidewalk", but no kazoos this year.

Spoon-nose Cora in Tony's Oyster Bar.

Theresa and the Sled Puppy.

It had gotten very windy these past few miles, and a few times it tried to blow the SAG stop away. Good that they were closing it down anyway. On the road again, we headed down Hwy 1 towards Tomales Bay and Marshall. Tony's Restaurant was our next stop, and we were joined by Peggy's George, so we were me, Cora, Theresa, Jim, Phil, Peggy, and George. I had my usual 4 BBQ oysters and a beer.

Only 8 miles more to Olema and camp. Cora was the strong one now, and so pulled us all into camp. Phil sucked her wheel all of those last miles and then sprinted past Cora to get the Olema sign. Cheater. He should have let Cora get her first sprint sign.

It was still very windy in camp. I had put out my table cloth with a half finished puzzle, but it kept blowing away. I even tied the table cloth down at each end and then also down the middle, but that wasn't enough. The wind would come and pick up finished sections of puzzle and throw them down into the tall grass. Finally we had to just give up on the puzzle and put it away. People seached very hard to be sure that we found all of the pieces hiding in the grass. I hope we got them all.

After dinner, a few of us walked over to the bar for a bit, and then back to camp. I found myself to be very tired and so just wanted to go to bed. Cora wanted to get a group together at the campfire, and so after I was in bed a bit I dragged myself up and over to the campfire for awhile. But I never really did wake up and could think of nothing better than to go back to bed, and so finally I had to leave the others and go to bed.

Go to the next day.
